We are leaving Barcelona at 8:00am tomorrow, with a stop in Figures, Spain to see the Dali museum before continuing on to Montpellier, France. The past two days have been outstanding and I am a strong fan of the city. I would love to come back.
Yesterday was a beach day. We slept in a bit, catching some much needed rest, then hit the beach. After an amazing dinner and watching the unbelievable Croatia-Turkey football match (3-1 in a shoot out! after two goals were scored in the last 90 seconds of extra time, for those of you who missed it!) we stumbled upon two new friends, Katy and Ethan, sister and brother newly arrived to Barcelona via LA/Boston. We grabbed a few beers together last night, then agreed to meet up this afternoon for lunch and hanging out on the beach. We picnicked with them in the shadow of the Christopher Columbus column at the end of Las Ramblas before hitting the sand. (Overheard in French, roughly translated,”What did that guy do again?” I guess Columbus is not as big a figure in European history as he is in American.) We spent the afternoon on the beach, then went in search of dinner. At my request, we tracked down a restaurant off the beaten path that served two things; payailla and sangria. Both were excellent and indescribable. We topped the evening off with a couple of bottles of wine at the hostel bar! It is strange and wonderful to meet similarly minded friends in a foreign country, but we have had a great time in the past 24 hours. Here is to hoping that everyone else we meet along the way is just as much fun.

I love the descriptions of the food you are eating. You can learn a lot about the country by the basic food they eat and how they prepare it for guests.
Also sounds fun to meet up with some fellow Americans. Bet you had a lot to share. Hope to hear from you again soon. Love Mom

I find it hard to believe that you will find people as much fun as my sister and I. We kinda rock. There was a festival for the summer solstice last night. Fireworks on the beach. You guys were missed!

Things have been crazy here getting Adam ready to leave for Israel. He landed there today and all reports are great so far. Anyway I FINALLY found time to read your posts and catch up on your trip. Sounds fantastic! I’m so envious. This is the time in your life to do this stuff! Enjoy every minute of it. Looking forward to keeping up with your posts and hearing if you hook up with my dad and Shirley! Love, Aunt Pam
