Hello from Berlin!

Hey everyone!

Again, sorry for the delay on my end of the posts! We are having a fabulous time and can hardly believe that we´ll be home in just a few days! We are trying hard to keep that out of our thoughts and focusing on the rest of our time in Germany. So far, so good!

A quick recap! Though RF has done a tremendous job recounting our experiences! Munich was truly great, but not at all what I expected it to be. I was thinking, land of beer! Yay! But it was also the land of the birth of the Nazi party, which was a tough pill to swallow. It was hard hearing things like the fact that the Nazi party was born in the Haufbrauhaus, the place that we had enjoyed beers in the night before. Seeing things like where the plaques used to hang where people were required to do the nazi salute, and still being able to see the holes where the hung… very difficult. The White Rose monument, where students were executed for handing out literature going against the nazi party still has fresh white roses there today. It´s very clear that the wounds from Germanys past are still very much apart of their present day life. It´s a lot different being in there, standing where all this happened, then reading it in a book in 8th grade history class.

I am impressed with the way Germany has dealt with it. They talk about it and work hard to educate people about their past. I like that.

Czech Republic? Meh, wouldn´t go back (sorry to all you Prague fans!)

Dresden, Germany was really artsy and funky and not overrun by tourists. We made friends with someone that worked at the hostel who took us out one night to see the Dresden nightlife. Very cool. A lovely city! Go visit!

Berlin has been awesome. We did another free walking tour today, which was fabulous. (If you are travelling to Europe, do the New Europe Free tours! They are fabulous!). It was pretty incredible and heartstopping to hear about all the history that has occurred in my lifetime alone.

Berlin has a great vibe. Artsy as well. Kinda reminds me of New York, minus the tall buildings… We are planning on hitting up the Pergamon and the Jewish Museum, as well as a day trip to Potsdam. WE mustn´t forget our last few chances to hit up some beer gardens!

Just a note, though we are nearing the end of our trip, please PLEASE keep reading after we return (which is Thursday). I will be posting pictures and we will have a few post trip entries!

Thanks everyone for reading! We are both looking forward to seeing you all when we get back!

Lovelovelove!

  1. I was always surprised that Germany was in color, maybe from watching all the old movies, I kinda expected Germany to be black and white. We have some powerful history here, not all good, the Germans seem to be healing from their 1900’s.

I know I miss you and look forward to you coming home! Can’t wait to see the pictures.

  3. Hi,

Who’s Marc? I think the last Mom posting above was RF’s since I didn’t post it, unless you have another Mom I wasn’t aware of!

I’ll be at the airport waiting anxiously on Thursday. Would you and Rebecca like me to have a pizza for you when you arrive home? Thought you might like something to eat after the long flight.

    Love Mom (Lindsay’s)
